Visitors' Home Remodeling Tips

Check out the following tips from fellow renovation101.com visitors:

If you face a complicated home remodeling project of unknown duration or complexity, it may be fairest if your contractor agrees to work on an hourly basis.  Two benefits:  1)neither the homeowner nor the will feel taken advantage of if the job is longer/shorter than expected, and 2)the two parties can part ways early if it's not working out.

When installing corner bead on drywall, these areas are prone to cracking over time. I like to use self-stick drywall screen tape on each side of the metal, splitting the
coverage between the bead and the wall. This eliminates any chance of a
crack forming. Also, I always use screws, never nails.
