Bubbles in Drywall Tape

-When installing drywall tape, it is not uncommon to see bubbles appearing under the self-adhesive drywall tape after mudding it.  Even experienced do-it-yourselfers experience this problem with drywall tape.

-One solution is to use the "mesh" drywall tape that allows the air to seep through.  The problem with mesh drywall tape is that it can be difficult to apply near the inside corners.  Also, some drywall installers have problems with the mesh drywall tape cracking in an unsightly way.

-The best solution I have heard of is to first apply a thin coating of drywall mud to the wall before adding the self-adhesive drywall tape.  Then, cut the tape to size, moisten it slightly (by passing it through a bucket of water or misting with a spray bottle), then apply it over the coating of mud.  Once it is on, use a drywall tool to embed it and squeeze out the excess mud.  After this is completed, add a final coating of drywall compound over the drywall tape, and voila, no bubbles!
