Granite Counters

-Here are a few miscellaneous thoughts on granite counters:

-I have never done this, but I have heard that you can go to a granite fabricator and ask them for remnants.  These may be odd shaped pieces or defective pieces that you can get a large discount.  It's worth a call or two to your local granite counters fabricator.

-There are huge variations in quality.  Be sure you check out the actual slab before you commit to buy and install the granite counters.

-The cost of granite counters varies widely.  I would avoid big box retailers if you can.  I have had best results with local granite counters fabricators.  Generally speaking, the more rare the granite, the more expensive.

-The edges that you decide on will affect the cost of your granite counters.  Be sure to nail this down at the start.

-Be sure to ask your fabricator for the best way to seal your granite counters to protect them against wine spills, etc.

-In order to save money, I have often chosen a less expensive alternative to granite counters for my bathrooms.  Typically, I have gone with Corian.
