Reusing Carpet

-Often, when remodeling or renovating your home or a rental house, you will find some carpet that want to reuse.  For example, when I was renovating an old bungalow, recently, I suspected that there were hardwood floors underneath the carpet.  I lifted up a corner, and voila, there were the hardwood floors that I had hoped for.

-But could I reuse the carpet?  Despite the fact that it needed a good shampooing and cleaning, the carpet was in good shape.  Of course, the tack strips were not useable.  I pulled them up and tossed them and kept the carpet.

-Reusing carpet may be a good way to save some money.  Assuming that it will fit in the new space, I would not hesitate to reuse carpet during a remodel or renovation project.

-You will probably want to discard the old pad that was under the carpet and start with a fresh one.  I will say that I have never laid down carpet myself.  I have always had a carpet installer take care of it.  This might be wise if there's going to be a lot of cutting involved.

Happy Renovating!
